What can new Parent's/Carers expect?
The Best Care for Your Child
New Beginner Pack
When joining Ewe and Me Childcare families are given a pack containing all relevant paperwork which are required to be filled out and returned before they start their settling in sessions. At this point I will also be having a conversation and gathering as much information about your child and their needs/interests as possible in order to make the transition as smooth as posssible. Family photos are welcomed also to be on hand for the children when needed to discuss their families and share experiences.
Settling in Sessions
Children have two settling in sessions which can be shared with yourself whereas you can stay and play for a short spell of time and gradually reduce this time when you feel your child feels more confident and able to be left independently in their new surroundings. These sessions are important as they enable us to get to know each other and they can familiarise themselves with their playroom, new routines, meet new friends and I can get to know their routines.  Once children have settled (this may take several weeks and that is perfectly fine) I will be asking parents/carers to work with me in determining where their child sits within their development. A simple checklist which contains developmental milestones which you have witnessed your child doing/ capable of ie, feeding themselves independently or scribing their own name.
Shared Learning
"Parents are their children's lifelong promoters of development and learning" Birth to 5 Matters" 2021. It is my aim to work in partnership with parents/carers to enable children to make connections with their wider world and foster a love of learning. This will be achieved through creating individual learning journeys which are unique to your child. Examples of children's learning, photos, wow moments and creations will be gathered and used to showcase their achievements and understanding and will be available to share and revisit continuously to build upon children's "sticky knowledge". Parents/carers are welcome to see them anytime and take them home to celebrate their child's learning and development.
Handover time during morning's and at the end of the day is a time when I encourage families to share their time away from the setting with me to ensure we are fully up to date and aware of the child's "whole picture". This is especially crucial in terms of ensuring we know about any important factors that may require increased detail and attention for example, if a child has felt unwell or has injured themselves. Documents will be signed and shared ie, Accident/ incident forms and attendance registers.
During the day, I communicate with parents/carers using private messaging to keep you informed of any exceptional circumstances which may require immediate attention. Photos are also shared and parents/carers are encouraged to share photos, messages with me so I can share these with your child by casting them onto our learning TV in the play room.
